- FINDING LITTLE MO IN MOROCCO -
High in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, I came across a small boy who teetered in thigh high pink rubber boots, then fell flat on his face. The little boy’s deformed feet pointed in the wrong direction—toward his buttocks instead of forward. The orthopedic surgeon in me recognized this congenital deformity as untreated clubfeet. The poor kid… I wanted to wrap him in my arms and comfort him.
Eight months after his arrival to our home, Little Mo walked back to school without the clunky casts that had imprisoned him for for so long. He strutted into the classroom and flashed his light-up Spider-Man shoes. His stunned teachers and classmates gathered around him. He paraded theatrically around the room.
He boasted, "Look, new feet."
His buddy Jack screamed out, “Mohamed! You got shoes!"
